Things to look out for:
Interest rates. Generally interest rates are much higher than the rates of interest you'd pay on a personal loan, so it's not a good idea to use a credit card for long term borrowing. If you're not going to pay off the full balance each month it's a good idea to use a card with the lowest possible rate.
Annual Fees Some cards charge an annual fee - which you'll need to pay even if you pay off your balance every month. It may be worth paying the fee if the card has other benefits such as low interest rates.
Balance Transfers Some cards allow you to transfer your balance from another credit card - often with a period of 0% or low interest rates. Read the small print - sometimes you need to pay a fee when you make the transfer which could mean you're better off leaving the balance where it is.

Which credit card is right for you?
Before applying for a credit card it's worth thinking about how you're likely to use the card, this will help you decide which features are important.
If you pay off your full balance each month you might like a card with benefits such as cashback and rewards schemes.
If you use your card to tide you over when you're short of cash you may be more interested in a low interest rate and an introductory interest free period.
If you're currently paying interest on credit card balances you may be looking to transfer your balance to a new card - often with a lower or interest free introductory offer.
